Find Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Providers Near You

HBOT is available at hospital-based wound care centers, standalone hyperbaric clinics, and some specialty medical practices. Finding an accredited provider matters for both your safety and your insurance coverage.

The type of facility you choose can affect what treatments are available, what insurers will pay for, and the level of physician oversight you’ll get.

Types of HBOT Providers

Hospital-based wound care centers are the most common setting for FDA-approved HBOT. These facilities bill Medicare and commercial insurers directly. They typically have hyperbaric-certified physicians on staff and follow established clinical protocols.

Standalone HBOT clinics vary widely. Some are medically run and handle both FDA-approved and off-label treatments. Others focus on wellness uses and may not have a physician on site. Verify credentials before you book.

University and research hospitals sometimes operate hyperbaric programs connected to clinical trials. If you have a condition being studied for HBOT, ask your doctor whether a research program near you might be an option.

How to Find an Accredited Provider

The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) maintains the most trusted provider directory in the field. You can search it directly at uhms.org.

When evaluating a facility, look for:

  • UHMS Accreditation. This is the gold standard for hyperbaric facilities. Accredited centers meet published safety and quality standards.
  • A credentialed hyperbaric physician. Ask if the supervising physician is board-certified in hyperbaric medicine or has completed formal hyperbaric medicine training.
  • Medical-grade equipment. Chambers should operate at 2.0 ATA or above. Soft-shell “mild” chambers at 1.3 ATA don’t meet medical standards.

Before You Book

Not every clinic that offers HBOT is the right fit for your situation. Before you commit, ask these questions:

  • Is this a medical-grade chamber? It should operate at 2.0 ATA or higher. Soft chambers don’t meet the pressure levels used in clinical research.
  • Is there a hyperbaric physician on staff? Someone credentialed in hyperbaric medicine should be overseeing your treatment.
  • Is my condition FDA-approved for HBOT? If yes, insurance may cover it. If no, you’ll likely pay out of pocket.
  • Will my insurance cover this? Get pre-authorization before you start. Don’t assume coverage.
